TAS AmericasAbout

A house for families whose lives cross borders.

TAS stands for Together and Stronger. TAS Americas is its house for the United States: for everyone with a foreign-born story who lives here, from every continent and every country of the hemisphere, together with their families, and for Americans who now live abroad.

An organization of members and associations.

Together and Stronger is a membership organization for people whose lives cross borders: those who have left the country where they were born, those who have arrived in a new one, and the families that stretch between the two.

TAS Americas serves two journeys that run in opposite directions. The first belongs to the professionals, students, entrepreneurs and families who have built their lives in the United States, in any of the fifty states or Puerto Rico, having come from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Brazil, Haiti, Africa, Asia, Europe or the Middle East, together with their US-born children, relatives and friends. The second belongs to the US citizens and permanent residents now living in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East or Oceania: professionals on assignment, retirees, students, and families who chose a life overseas.

Both journeys are welcome as members, and both hold the same card. People who live in Canada join through TAS Canada, the house of the family for that country, and TAS Latin America welcomes residents of Latin America and the Caribbean.

It is an organization of members and associations, not of personalities. What speaks for it is what a member holds: a card, twelve areas of benefit, and a community that stands with them.

On the world stage

Built to become the world’s largest affinity network for families whose lives cross borders.

Belong to an organization whose values count on the world stage. TAS Americas is one of eight regional houses that issue a single card and keep a single promise, from the United States to Europe, Africa and Asia. Every member who joins adds weight to every other member, in every house, wherever they live.

That ambition is measured by the people we serve, not by the claims we make. It grows one member, one household and one association at a time, and it is pursued with the same care we owe each of them.

304 million
people live outside their country of birth: the community we exist to serve.

The law of large numbers, put to work for ordinary households.

A household that negotiates alone accepts the terms it is given. Many households that negotiate together set the terms. It is the oldest idea in mutual aid, and the one on which the great membership organizations of the last century were built.

We apply it to people who had never been gathered in one place. A family whose life crosses borders buys the same flights, transfers, phone plans, insurance and schooling as its neighbors, and it often buys them twice: once where it lives and once for the family at home. Gathered into one membership, those families carry real weight at the table, and TAS Member Services negotiates on behalf of all of them.

The larger the membership, the stronger the terms; the stronger the terms, the more each member gains. That is why your first 90 days of membership are free, and why every new member matters to those who joined before.

One card, recognized by every house.

The family has eight regional houses: the Americas, for the United States, then Europe, Canada, India, China, Africa, East Asia and West Asia, with TAS World as the gateway to all of them. Each house speaks the languages of its people and knows the systems they live under. All of them issue the same card.

A member who moves from Houston to Madrid, from Chicago to Mumbai or from Los Angeles to Seoul keeps the membership and is received by the house of the new home. Americans abroad remain members of TAS Americas wherever they live, and every other house recognizes their card.

TAS Member Services negotiates and runs the benefit programs for every house. TAS Foundation gives free first help to anyone in difficulty, and fuller support to card-holding members in hardship. Together and Stronger, the parent organization, holds the family to one standard.

What we believe.

  1. Together we are always stronger.

A household negotiating alone is easy to overlook. A community negotiating together is not.

  2. We build stronger communities.

The student, the grandmother and the business owner want different things; in one organization, each of them gets it.

  3. Distance does not break a family.

Distance wears a family down slowly. We are here so that the thread never snaps.

  4. No one is left to strangers.

When a member falls ill, loses work or dies far from home, the community stands with the family.

  5. Excellence is a form of respect.

We are careful, punctual and courteous with every person we serve.

The standards we hold ourselves to.

An organization earns trust by keeping its promises in writing. These are ours, and they apply in every state where a member lives and in every country where an American member has settled.

  1. We never ask about status.

Not on the membership form, not on the card, and not in any conversation. No benefit depends on it.

  2. We never sell personal information.

Members’ information is used only to serve them, and it is deleted when they ask.

  3. Membership is free for the first 90 days.

One membership per adult, with children under 18 included on a parent’s membership.

  4. Associations join on the same terms.

An association joins at no cost for its first 90 days and keeps its name, its funds, its leadership and its independence.

  5. Every program is plainly marked.

“With your member card” or “Free to everyone”. There is no third kind, and no fine print.

  6. We give no legal, immigration, tax or financial advice.

Our guides are general information, and we refer members to qualified professionals and to the public authority concerned.

  7. Membership is not insurance.

Insurance is offered through licensed providers. The Mutual Aid Compact is a commitment between associations; it is not insurance and creates no right to payment.

  8. We are independent.

TAS Americas is not a government body, consulate or public authority, and is not affiliated with any.

The languages we serve members in.

The United States speaks many languages. This house is published in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, members write to us in any of the four, and members who serve as interpreters help us answer in many more.

  • EnglishEvery member, in all fifty states and abroad
  • EspañolMore than 40 million people in the United States speak it at home
  • PortuguêsBrazilian communities in Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey and beyond
  • FrançaisHaitian and French-speaking African communities in New York, Miami and Boston

Those who serve.

Much of what a member meets in their own city is the work of members who give their time: community ambassadors, association liaisons, interpreters, guide writers, mentors and welcome volunteers. They meet the newly arrived at the start of a first week, set down how the bank or the clinic works for the next family, and carry the needs of their city to the table.

It is an honor open to any member, in any city where TAS Americas members live.

Serve with us

The associations behind us.

Long before there were websites, there were hometown associations, alumni clubs, chambers of commerce, cultural societies and congregations. TAS Americas exists to make them stronger, never to replace them. Each joins at no cost for its first 90 days, keeps its name and its independence, and takes a seat in the network and the Mutual Aid Compact.

For community leaders

Independence.

TAS Americas (Together and Stronger Americas) is an independent membership organization. It is not a government body, consulate or public authority, and is not affiliated with any government. It speaks for its members, and for no one else.
